[It seems someone has decided to change his voicemail following graduation. Hes trying so hard to sound professional, business like, but Hanna's usual enthusiasm bleeds through easily.]

You have reached the mailbox of Hanna Cross. If you don't have an appointment, my secretary will follow up with a return message shortly. [a short pause.] meaning me. I'll get back to you, don't worry.

And if this is an emergency what are you doing on the phone? Cardio is your friend. byyyye!

Hanna? Pick up. Please. I'd like to know that you're all right.

...obviously I'm fine but I also avoid trouble unlike some people.

[Unfortunately for Vincent, Hanna does not avoid trouble as much as he should. In this instance, he wasn't looking for a fight, he wanted to help as soon as he'd heard gunshots, but John knocking him out might do more than piss Hanna off, his response delayed by over an hour.

When it does come, Hanna returns with a text.]

Home soon srry im fine.

[He almost misses a step on the stair as he stares at the message, taking in a stuttering breath before shooting another text off immediately after.]

not okay.

Physical/mental/spiritual?

[Does he feel like sending another text off?

Not really.

Should he?

...Probably.

He sends it off just before opening the door to his floor, just as some kind of warning as to what Vincent should be prepared for.]

[ Vincent is in Hanna's cabin, which is mostly his cabin; he sleeps here more often than not and he's got a significant amount of things here, given that. But he's here and he's going to start making hot chocolate when he gets the first message so it should hopefully be at least partially ready by the time Hanna walks through the door. He won't immediately approach. ]

Hanna?

[Hanna shoulders open the door. Normally he would just flop face down on his bed after a long day, but instead he comes up to the tiny kitchen island, pulls out the stool and sits, staring at the countertop.

He physically looks fine, there isn't even a drop of blood left on his hands or his clothes, but it's clear from his face and his red eyes that he's been crying.

He doesn't look like he's going to start again, but that could change in a moment with how he's currently feeling, pressing his lips tight together as he breathes in, trying for deep breaths. He isn't sure what to say, so he'll glance up, try to acknowledge Vincent properly when he speaks, the words too soft.]

Hey...

Oh, none of that now.

[ No effort, Hanna. Not with him. He's going to put the hot chocolate down in front of him and walk around to reach out a hand towards him, towards his shoulder. Then, after a deep breath in, he will touch and he will, if there is no resistance, try and pull him into a hug. ]

[If he felt any better he might huff, unsure what exactly he was supposed to say when he didn't have words. But instead Vincent is pulling him close and there is no resistance.

For a moment he's quiet, but as the seconds pass by he feels himself get smaller, that sixteen year old sitting in the police station still covered in blood, alone aside from a hot cup of coffee that he didn't touch taking in a stuttering breath before he breaks.

Turning in the stool to cling as tightly as he's able, he buries his face in Vincent's chest and there goes the dam.]

[ And that's why he wears sweater vests in this time of year: because now Hanna has plenty of material to soak in the dam water. Go on, Hanna. Cry it all out. He'll hold you. ]

[It'll be a while, and he's not quiet as he does, but it is testament to how safe he feels right now to be as messy as he is. His grip doesn't loosen for as long as he goes, but as it finally starts to taper off, the tears rather than the wave of emotions, he feels as if he just ran a mile.

Sniffling, he pulls one of his sweater sleeves up over his hand to wipe at his face, trying to slow his breathing to something more even as it skips and stutters like a scratched CD.

And despite how raw his throat is, he finally cracks a quiet, inappropriate joke.]

D-did you know, the worst thing about finding a new set of Dads is that y-you get to open a door to surprise dead parents more than once?

[Hanna looks miserable] Zero out of ten, would not recommend.

[ Ahhh. Well, that explains quite a lot. ]

Sheehan and Arthur?

[ Well, shit. Now he'll have to go check on Arthur. This is why friends are so much trouble. Hadn't he almost been killed what- damn, over a year ago. How time flies. All the same. ]

I am more glad than usual, then, that they'll be up and going in a few days. Though I'm sorry you had to see it. They didn't- [ and he looks Hanna up and down for a second check over just in case- ] Just logistics?

[He nods against his chest, yes Sheehan and Arthur.

He knows Arthur is going to look terrible for a while, might even rival him for weight which truly is disturbing given Hanna's small stature and lack of working organs.]

I didn't get hurt... Just- Just opened the door and saw them there. It wasn't Arthur until I- Well. I was trying to fix it. [He hadn't even known who Parker was, perhaps some one new to the barge.]

Then John showed up, made me stop...

[ He just nods, listening, taking in what Hanna is saying. He can assume which parts horrified him, but he's interested in getting a whole picture more than he's interested in saying something. ]

[He sniffles, turning his head to glare at the circle rug on the floor.]

Positive it was that new guy, just fucking killing people at random. When I heard the gun shots I kind of ran toward them, you know? Thought I could help...Too little a little too late and all that.

[Shifting a little so he can grab that cup of cocoa and just hold it, warming his hands, he frowns down at the cup.]

John was right to stop me, I probably could have killed myself doing frantic, dumbass magic, but...he shouldn't have done it like he did.

[ Vincent just nods. He considers what Hanna is saying, and recalls what Hanna has said before. ]

Probably not. Though I doubt he was any more calm than you were, given the victims. [ He shrugs. ] I'm sure he would be willing to talk to you about it. I don't know him personally, but he seems to want to talk about anything and everything as he presents himself on the network.

...and a little feedback never hurt anyone. 'God of self-care' or not.

[He can understand that bit, but there is some resistance there, shaking his head.]

I don't want to talk to him right now. [As much as he's sure John would want to, and he's being stubborn and actually not telling John he's upset, this is the one time he's sure John could probably take the leap to 'Hanna is mad' without it being a wild or unfounded guess.]

He just- He just knocked me out, a-and when I woke up, it was like nothing had even happened, like all the evidence was gone. My clothes were clean, the blood on my hands- I... [He shakes his head again, gently hitting his forehead against Vincent's chest and holding the cup tight.] I want to say he did it to be kind, but I don't...I don't feel like making excuses for it when all it did was freak me out and make it worse.

Ah yes, 'gaslighting as kindness' [ he says it with some dismissal, though not of Hanna. How strange entities ignore and forget the importance of one's senses. ] I mentioned it only to give you license to vent your spleen, Hanna. [ He is well aware Hanna often comes up with reasons to discount his own upset. ] You don't owe him anything.

[ A raised eyebrow. ]

Is there anything you would like? The cocoa was a guess.

[He usually is rather quick to come up with excuses for other people, to explain away behavior that hurts him because it makes it easier to say it wasn't intentional and make it feel like it doesn't hurt as badly as it did, but not right now.

He looks up from his cup, not having touched it, but at least appreciating it's warmth and the gentle smell of chocolate and cinnamon.]

I...Don't know what I want... the urge to crawl in a fucking whole and not exist is pretty high if I'm being honest.

Then may I make a suggestion?

[Hanna doesn't think it'd hurt, shrugging to signal a go ahead]

[ He nods, appreciating the trust. ]

I would like to wrap you up into a blanket like a sushi roll, keep feeding you warm drinks, put on ridiculous, mindless movies, and sit with you while we watch.

[He cracks the smallest little smile, eyes still a little watery.]

I veto the sushi roll. [He sets the cup down behind him on the counter and nods in the direction of his bed.] Just cause I'd rather lay on you under the covers with our mindless movie. Just be warned I'm like...exhausted? So you'll be trapped pretty quick if you wanted to do anything else this evening.

I accept your veto and propose we move forward with this open-faced sandwich plan.

[ A pause. ]

I'm not going anywhere tonight, Hanna.

[Something in his heart hurts when he says so, tightening his grip on his arm.]

Don't- Don't say stuff like that. You'll jinx it.

[ And because it's today- ]

Forgive me: I have no intention of going anywhere tonight. So if you happen to black out on top of me, I would be entirely amenable to it.
