[It seems someone has decided to change his voicemail following graduation. Hes trying so hard to sound professional, business like, but Hanna's usual enthusiasm bleeds through easily.]

You have reached the mailbox of Hanna Cross. If you don't have an appointment, my secretary will follow up with a return message shortly. [a short pause.] meaning me. I'll get back to you, don't worry.

And if this is an emergency what are you doing on the phone? Cardio is your friend. byyyye!

[Hanna can't respond super well while he's chewing, but he swallows as Arthur comes back in.]

Casual and comfy is how you know you've made it as friends. It's really just for fun, promise. Though I do suspect that you both have to be wearing something super embarrassing to bed if you refuse so hard.

[He does thumb another little colorful square out, orange flavor and offers it to Arthur.]

Starburst? I said I'd bring junk over.

Perhaps some of us simply have dignity.

[He does take the little orange square with open curiosity, and despite the fiddly little package he gets it open easily, and despite the slightly suspicious look he gives Hanna, he doesn't hesitate to pop it into his mouth.

And there's an immediate noise of surprise from him, that turns into a slightly strangled cough.]

Fuck that's rich-

[Not that he spits it out; it just takes a moment to get his reaction under control.]

I have no fucking clue what that is, can I eat it?

[He grins as Arthur takes the candy, watching him as he grabs his cup of coffee.

Though he almost spills it on himself when he swears.]

Uh...is that a bad thing?

[He flaps a hand as he swallows, before grabbing his own coffee.]

It's fine, just- unexpected. Twenty-first century sweets are a damn headache half the time, that's all.

[Make all the 'poor Edwardian orphan' jokes you like, Hanna, at least he knows what he's about.]

[He made the mistake of attempting to drink his coffee, half snorting into the cup.]

Maybe if should have made you try Baja Blast instead of Trevor. One sip and you'd just pass away.

Yeah, well, maybe I like to think I've earned the right to be a little fussy about my food.

[Though there's an easy smirk on his face, good-humoured.]

You could feed me anything so long as it doesn't have mushrooms in it. [He's got the one no button but is pretty open to most everything else. He definitely does agree with Arthur though that he has a right to be fussy.]

Good of you to humor me by trying it though. I'll find something in that pantry you like, promise.

[That gets a soft laugh out of Arthur.]

And I'm sure you won't rest until we've tried everything in there at least once.

You know me so well.

[Hanna crosses one leg over his knee, sinking back into the couch and sipping his coffee.]

And since we've got the understanding that I will definitely feed you junk food when ever I get the chance, what was it you wanted to ask me about?

Of course.

[Well, the easy part of the conversation was nice while it lasted.]

I... actually, I was hoping to ask you a few things about David.

[The question comes as a bit of a surprise but he's not put off by it, tilting his head curiously and turning a little so he can face Arthur more directly.]

Terminator? Yeah, sure.

He...doing okay? I mean, probably not, but...everything alright?

[It's probably a safe assumption that Hanna knows about the programming stuff, if David was trying so hard to get his help in circumventing it.]

It's... a bit of a story. You're aware that David and I look- remarkably similar. [Understatement of the week, as he drums his fingers quietly against his coffee mug.] Unfortunately this has lead to the direct problem of his programming trying to kill me whenever he sees me.

[He probably shouldn't sound so... amusedly resigned about it. But it was what it was.]

So we got to talking over our communicators before, since my voice alone doesn't set him off, and we... connected, a bit. And he told me that I ought to... ask you about his name.

[He expects Hanna to treat that suspiciously, really. He knows how protective his young friend is.]

[Hanna knows enough, Saga had told him most of what he knows when David had disappeared, he'd read his ledger when he'd come back. Some had come from David's letter, but they hadn't actually spoken about it much man to man.

He isn't exactly surprised when Arthur says that David's tried to kill him though.] Oh, yeah... He's tried to get me a few times before he realized I graduated. That definitely helped. I've been thinking about chatting with him about that actually, just...we tatlked about him staying with me for a bit and I figured to give it a little more space before broaching it. [He adores David but skirting the line of being a friend and a warden is still a little odd to him and it's a difficult thing to approach.

He does listen as Arthur goes on, quite, thumb rubbing the handle of his mug. He doesn't think Arthur would lie to him, and yet still there is the slightest narrowing of his eyes.]

First time I said it to his face he tried to kill me like I'd just flipped a switch. He told me in writing to ask Saga when he'd left, and still. Did he say why he wanted you to know? I- I kinda want to double check he hasn't changed his mind if that's okay with you.

[He nods readily. That's about what he expected, due diligence for his friend's wellbeing.]

I can show you the conversation we had on my communicator, as well. [Putting his coffee down so he can reach into his jacket for it as well.] But John and I have been in his mind before - o-or his dreams, rather, where we were able to hold an actual conversation, without restrictions. He's not able to talk or give full verbal permission outside of that, his programming won't allow for it. And as far as we can tell, his programming forces him to- well, as you said, terminate anyone that threatens to learn something hidden beneath it.

[He finds the conversation, but holds his communicator in his hands, still.]

We connected about Saga. She was my warden first, still. That's what seemed to inspire him to be willing to let me ask you that, in the closest way he could to actual permission.

[Hanna sets his cup down, pulling out his own just in the off change that David's changed his mind, though he pauses in the middle of his text to look up at Arthur.]

Wh- No, no. Terminator has nothing to do with his programming, though it's uh...weirdly appropriate. It's a nickname. When we first met he looked like a fucking action hero with the bloody wounds and the torn jacket on the deck. So I started calling him Terminator, like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator series. Be kind of fucked up if I called him that because he's compelled to kill people.

[He goes back to his text, Terminator, it's John Connor. Lester Lester is asking about O-Henry. Confirm? and shoots it off with a little smile, brushing the screen with his thumb before glancing back up. Saga still is a bit of a sore subject for him, but he did actually like her despite everything.]

Let him get back to me and we'll see if he still wants you to know. Makes sense though... I missed the hell out of him, but the fucking floor falling out of under him when he got back makes it hard to be entirely happy about it. Admiral needs to be better about keeping his grip on people instead of handling them like he's just oiled his fucking hands. Pisses me off.

Look, as someone who has fallen off completely myself before, room vanished and all, it's... difficult to blame the Admiral. [He shrugs slightly.] Though I'm aware my position on that might be unique. People don't tend to give the Barge much regard, despite the fact it's- that she is still very much her own person, and the true anchor as to whether we live, die, or suffer generally.

[He puts his communicator on the table to pick up his coffee again.]

That's not to say I don't understand yelling at the Admiral, when he's the face of the entire operation, but to blame him exclusively feels... to me, I suppose, disingenuous.

[Hanna frowns down at his communicator, waiting for a message. He doesn't look up at Arthur as he speaks, but he is listening. His thumb continues to brush against the screen slowly as he waits.]

It's...I mean, that's not exactly why I'm mad. Sure, I have a problem with people suddenly vanishing, it's fucking traumatizing, but I don't like the idea of jerking someone vulnerable around like that. Is he here? Is he not? Does he have a stable warden? Does he not? Did she get transferred and now he's back? Did she vanish? And now he's still here?

That's fucked up. And if I can blame both him and the ship for it, I will. David- [There's a soft ping as he gets a message back. Roger that, John Connor. You're a go. he stares at it a moment, swallows.]

Henry deserves to be treated better than that and I can do fuck all to change any of it. So I'm mad, and I'm here, as long as the ship and the Admiral will keep me in their slippery fingers. But it sucks when I can't promise I'll be here, because maybe I won't. And if he does move in with me, maybe the same thing will happen and I'll go, and he'll lose his space again.

There goes the floor. And no one can do anything about it.
