[It seems someone has decided to change his voicemail following graduation. Hes trying so hard to sound professional, business like, but Hanna's usual enthusiasm bleeds through easily.]
You have reached the mailbox of Hanna Cross. If you don't have an appointment, my secretary will follow up with a return message shortly. [a short pause.] meaning me. I'll get back to you, don't worry.
And if this is an emergency what are you doing on the phone? Cardio is your friend. byyyye!
Action;
Aerith's voice is cheerful and she's got...a sandwich. And cookies. And she's standing right outside his door, clearly ready to wait for awhile.
"Anybody home?"
Re: Action;
"Uh, have you been waiting long? Gimme a second, I'll open the door." With what hands? He isn't sure, but he sure did lock his door before he left. Balancing the stack against the wall and his hip, he uses his free hand to grab his key, opening the door and gesturing inside. "After you?"
no subject
"Oh, not at all! Sorry for dropping by." She's smiling and clearly at ease, moving to help- but he already is moving to open up the door. He's done this before, she guessed.
"And- okay- here Hanna." She offered her hands, the food on its tray being set on her hip. "Want me to help carry things in?"
no subject
"What's the occasion?"
no subject
That was when she turned around to give him a smile and a shrug. "No real reason. I decided to make you some cookies and a sandwich. Just in case you were hungry."
Well, there was. She was here to check on him, but in a low key, friendly way.
no subject
He grabs the books he'd dropped on the mattress and stacks them next to his bed on the floor, no particular order, just available to read when he's in bed. "What kind of cookies?"
no subject
Maybe. Or just an excuse to drop in. Don't question it too hard. Especially when she brightens up at him asking about the cookies.
"Oh, they're chocolate chip! I made them." She bounced a little on her feet, pressing her hands together. "I mean-I could have done it with nuts if you like nuts. Do you like nuts?"
She may be planning to make more cookies.
no subject
He is interested in the sandwich, but home made cookies are more enticing, "I'm not a huge nut fan, but a cookie is a cookie. Though, I will say gingersnaps or molasses are definitely a favorite if you ever want to make a batch." Because those are gooey soft and to die for.
"You mind if I just have one?"
no subject
Aerith smiled, and glanced over to the books, curious. She had no idea what others liked to read, particularly Hanna. She'd been mostly reading gardening and cooking things, if only for practical reasons.
But maybe some fiction wouldn't be a bad idea.
"You can share them or keep them too. Which do you like better, gingersnaps or molasses cookies? I could make either anytime." She smiled.
no subject
His selections are a mixture of fiction and magic, something he'd picked out a warden recommendation if anyone asks, and just to get an idea of what he might could learn if it plays right with his own shit. If she looks at titles more closely, there is an Alan Wake book in the stack and it's definitely not the first he's checked out.
"Probably Molasses, they aren't as popular, but they're so good when they're right out of the oven."
no subject
"Lucky for you, I have an oven. So you can get them when they're still piping hot, if that's how you like them." She told him, distracted by the covers. Magic, magic...she had no idea if these were real magic books or something about...what was that one title she saw? Something about hobbits?
"Wait...wait a second." She dug out the Alan Wake book and held it up. "This can't be Alan's book, is it?"
She was surprised and delighted. "I didn't know his stuff was in the library!"
no subject
"Yeah! That's the third one. He told me the books where in there a while ago. They're pretty good, I've been rationing them." He had enjoyed the first two, quietly checking them out just in case Alan didn't want everyone suddenly reading his stuff.
"He's a pretty nice guy for a famous dude." He jokes, actually liking Alan quite a bit. He'd told him quite a bit more than he'd told most, though he supposes Vincent still had the upper hand on his secrets.
"I can pull the first one for you next time I'm in the library?
no subject
"He's an intense guy, but I like him." She smiled back, looking over the cover. Crime fiction huh. Maybe it made sense, with the things she knew from his world.
But she offered the book back. "If you could? I'd love to read his books. He might moan and groan about it, bit that's okay."
Her smile widened. "If he can call me a witch that travels in a bubble, I can compliment his writing. Thanks Hanna."
no subject
He does laugh though, wondering what she had done to get him to call her a witch in a bubble. "What the hell, what'd you do to deserve that? We fought over who was the main character for a bit, but decided that we're obviously just a split storyline that sometimes meets in different parts of the story cause neither of us are sidekick material."
no subject
"I think he was referring to some sort of story." She shook her head, shrugging. "He saw my staff after I told him I could do magic, and made the pink bubble travelling joke."
Though the mention of the main characters made her snicker a little. "Hanna...maybe you're both main characters, but in different genres? Alan can have one, you have another." She paused. "Though I guess if it's a mixed-genre book, you both could just be co-main characters like you agreed."
no subject
"And I suppose, though with what we've talked about, his bullshit and my bullshit sound pretty similar. Like, horror thriller with a pinch of noir thrown in?"
no subject
"But maybe I am that pink. Maybe I should ask if I should try different colors. And maybe...you two should branch out from your horror thriller noir to...slice of life? That's a genre right? I thought I saw that in the...cartoon section?"
She didn't know what anime was yet.
no subject
Finishing up the sandwich she'd brought by, he shakes his head, smiling at her, "I mean, you'd probably look great in most things. I like pink, it's a good color, but it doesn't hurt to change it up a little. And, I kind of do? I have a day job, but when you work with the paranormal, it isn't exactly 'fix this charm', 'remove these salamanders' kind of work, though I guess those jobs are fun too." Hanna hasn't watched a ton of anime, but he'd definitely been super into some of the more popular ones. What teenage boy didn't watch a little DBZ from time to time?
no subject
Hanna might have opened her up for movie nights. She might get Zack to watch it too, given half the chance. Then again, any excuse to hang out with him.
"So, you can suggest a color. I don't mind. I actually wear pink- have worn it- as a promise. Also, too poor to get another decent dress. But now I have the wardrobe and it's great."
Aerith tilted her head though. She hadn't heard of his main or side hustle before- but no wonder. They'd barely met when life went sideways.
"So...what exactly do you do with the paranormal then? We don't exactly have that back home. Actually- you explain yours and I can try to explain mine."
And it wouldn't even be lying, but some side stepping of her own nature. Though they might have to explore anime in the common room. It could be educational for everyone.
no subject
He considers her a moment, knowing the 'can't just afford new clothes struggle' and taps a finger to his chin. You shouldn't be asking Hanna fashion advice, Aerith, he wears magenta and orange all the time and his hair is fire engine red. "Yeah, I usually just grabbed what ever went on sale if I needed something new. Or those fill a bag, pay ten dollars bin dives at the goodwill outlet. Though that needed like five washes through the heavy cycle before it was ready to wear. What about...like, a soft blue? That'd be kind of pretty. Pink is my favorite color though, so I guess I don't see why you gotta change it up." But if she wanted to, she could. The wardrobe was her oyster.
At her last question though, he brings the plate of cookies with him, sitting next to her on the bed with the plate in-between them. "Well, I'm a PI, so I take cases, try and help people out of bad situations. Both sides can be a danger to each other, depending on what happens, so I'm kind of like...middle ground, or I try to be. A negotiator if the situation calls for it."
no subject
With popcorn and drinks. Maybe with anyone else they wanted to bring in. Have a social time.
"Maybe I'll go for soft blue then. And more pink but different styles." She smiled over at Hanna, taking a cookie. Fresh baked cookies were too good to resist.
"So...what kind of cases are typical?" She wanted to know. "Or are there no typical requests, just cases?"
no subject
"I mean...it's kind of all over the place. No two cases were the same. The paranormal, magic? That shit isn't supposed to exist, I just know about it. So when it pops up, it's usually a bad time for someone because they don't know what's going on. Not like there's a number you can call for the ghostbusters. Which- that's also a movie we should watch...should make a list or something."
no subject
Flower meadows, parkour. Fun things.
"But it could be a dinner party and then a common room movie viewing." She offered. "If you don't want to use the Enclosure."
The vampires might enjoy if there was an all night marathon. She had no idea if Godric or Eric would enjoy the movie time though.
"I'll use my commicator to make a list of movies if you want." She offered. "And one of those...paranormal cases stumbled on you? Is that how you got into it?"
It was a natural path for the conversation. Though it might have been probing, but he seemed proud of his ability. And she saw no reason for him to not be.
